"There is plenty of food in Jamaica, restaurants are everywhere. In the ghettos, they cook food and share it "more time", but in Jamaica more people buy food from "the road". Like they have a little corner shop where you could buy rice and peas n chicken "n dem ting deh".
Even the "poorest" man in Jamaica don't let the poverty effect him. He is dressed better then most of the other people. They are fine no matter what, and ghetto people are way happier than people in the industrialized countries. Jamaicans dress in a lot of brands. A lot of violence happens in Jamaica, but that's because they face injustice, and they got to do what they got to do to survive, but if you treat them with respect, they will treat you with respect. It´s not like they go and steal from you. Jamaicans are humans just like you and me. "

Det där fick mig osökt att tänka på Pulps gamla klassiker "Common people".
"Rent a flat above a shop, cut your hair and get a job. Smoke some fags and play some pool, pretend you never went to school. But still you'll never get it right, cos when you're laid in bed at night, watching roaches climb the wall, if you call your Dad he could stop it all.
Sing along with the common people, sing along and it might just get you through, laugh along with the common people, laugh along even though they're laughing at you, and the stupid things that you do. Because you think that poor is cool."
